Schnitzer Properties’ first acquisition in the Bay Area was the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley in 1955. A carefully-executed $20 million investment restored this landmark institution to its original splendor. For decades thereafter, it was one of the most sought-after facilities for business meetings and personal vacations.

In 1962, Schnitzer Properties bought 450 Sutter, San Francisco’s leading medical/dental office building located just off Union Square. World-famous architect Timothy Pflueger designed and built this 26-story Mayan Deco masterpiece that today offers modern office suites ranging from 600 to 6,000 SF with state-of-the-art building systems. 450 Sutter is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a two-time winner of The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) award for Medical Office Building in the Pacific Southwest region, presented by BOMA International.

Located in the Union Square shopping and theater district, the iconic, 1100-space Mason O’Farrell Garage is home to five national care rental agencies, two restaurants, specialty retail, and secure 24/7 parking. Mason O’Farrell offers competitive daily, monthly, and special parking rates for out of town guests and downtown workers.

Originally named The Downtown Center Garage, Mason O’Farrell was built in 1953 between Union Square and the then-booming theater districts. It was designed by Oakland-born architect George Applegarth and purchased by Schnitzer Properties in 1976.
